The district is proud to congratulate our Malverne High School Class of 2024 co-valedictorians Cynthia Kartick and Stephen Wyss and salutatorian Gabriela Franco, who were recognized at a breakfast ceremony in their honor on March 19.

In addition to achieving her status as co-valedictorian, Cynthia Kartick has been named AP Scholar with Distinction and is a recipient of the AP Capstone Diploma. Her other recent honors include an award for Excellence in Science Research and AP Capstone Seminar and the Rensselaer Medal Scholarship, which is presented to outstanding math and science students. During summer 2023, Cynthia was accepted into the Adelphi University Pre-College Program where she participated in a three-week summer course on essential computing and coding skills. Cynthia’s extracurricular activities include the Student Response Club and Book Club. She is also a member of the varsity tennis team. After graduation, Cynthia plans to study Creative Writing at Stony Brook University.

Co-valedictorian Stephen Wyss is a recipient of the National AP Scholar with Distinction Award and AP Capstone Diploma. He is a proud member of the Scholars Club, serving as vice president for the past two years and successfully competing in multiple varsity Quiz Bowl and Mathletes competitions. Stephen has also been a part of the VEX Robotics team since junior year and has competed in robotics competitions across the county. After proving an aptitude for computers, he was selected for a summer internship in the Malverne School District IT Department, where he assisted the district’s IT specialists as they prepared ipads and other technology for the upcoming school year. Stephen plans to major in Chemical Engineering after graduation.

During her senior year, Salutatorian Gabriela Franco has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction, received the prestigious National Hispanic Recognition Award and was selected as a Scholar Program finalist by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Among her other honors are the Most Improved Award during her junior year and Unsung Hero Award, which was presented earlier this school year. Gabriela’s extracurricular activities include serving as treasurer of the National Honor Society and trumpet leader in “The Pride of Malverne” Marching band. She is a member of the varsity tennis team and has been recognized a Scholar-Athlete for each of the past two years. Gabriela’s postsecondary plans include pursuing a degree Public Health.

Valedictorian is the academic title conferred upon the highest ranked student in each graduating class based upon grade point average. Salutatorian is the student with the second highest ranking in the class.
