The district is proud to congratulate two Senior High School students who have earned prestigious recognitions. Senior Alex Balarezo was recognized as both a Hispanic Scholar and African American Scholar from the College Board 2020-2021 National Merit Recognition Programs. Senior Yaelle Pierre was named a semifinalist for the 2020-2021 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Each year, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation recognizes exceptional students who exhibit dedicated leadership, service and action that positively impacts others. Yaelle is on her way to becoming one of 150 bright, young leaders to earn a scholarship toward college and future goals. She is actively involved in several organizations and clubs and has held leadership positions, such as class president, president of both Model UN and Foreign Language club, and secretary of the Book club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government, Creative Writing club, Dance team and plays clarinet for the award-winning Malverne High School Pride of Malverne Marching Band.

Alex was awarded as a Hispanic and African American scholar for his remarkable academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. Alex has a love for learning and independent exploration. He is actively involved in several organizations and clubs including Mathletes Club/competition, Quiz-bowl Club/competition and Robotics Club. He is also on the High Honor Roll and is a Homework Center Tutor. He is also a candidate for Advanced Regents Diploma with Mastery in Science.
