Eighth-graders in Shannon Kelly's science research class from Howard T. Herber Middle School recently participated in the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair's Broadcom Masters Middle School Competition. The competition was the culmination of their work, which began in the fall with students developing projects that followed the precepts of scientific and engineering design. We are proud to announce that two groups of students were honored at the event: Adam Akaeze, Nelson Crawford and Niles Wilson received Honorable Mention for their project investigating the impact of fertilizers on plant growth; and Sabrina Ramharakh, Jamila Smith and Farvens Ulysse were awarded First Place for their investigation into the relative absorbency of different paper towels. This is the first time Malverne students have received first-place recognition at LISEF. Congratulations to all of the students who competed!
