At its June 21 meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to
approve the appointment of Rebecca Gottesman to the position of director
of guidance, K-12. Ms. Gottesman joins the district after serving as a
consultant last year and brings with her more than 16 years of
experience with numerous college admissions offices, both domestically
and internationally.
Serving as a school counselor in Jericho Union Free School District for
nine years, she then functioned as the guidance chairperson for the
Great Neck Public Schools. Most recently, she provided leadership as the
K-12 District Director of Counseling in the Roslyn Public Schools. Ms.
Gottesman was co-president of the Nassau County Supervisors of Guidance
and was coordinator of 500 College Consortium for 16 Nassau County
school districts.
Ms. Gottesman earned her Bachelor of Science from Northeastern
University in sociology, her Master’s of Science in education from
Hofstra University and her school district administrator certification
from Touro College.
“I truly believe that by supporting students’ social-emotional needs and
creativity within a stimulating and supportive instructional
environment, we can and will provide a school climate where all students
believe they can attain personal and academic success,” she said about
her new position at Malverne High School.
“As we were consulting with Ms. Gottesman throughout the year, it became
evident that she was a great asset to our department,” Malverne High
School Principal Dr. Vincent Romano said. “She will be an invaluable
leader for our guidance department and a huge talent and resource for
our students. We are fortunate to have her aboard.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Hunderfund echoed these sentiments.
“We are confident Ms. Gottesman’s experience will be a huge asset to us
as we develop and improve our K-12 guidance program to meet the NYS
standards for the 2019-2020 school year. We welcome her as a member of
the Malverne School District’s Leadership Team.”
Ms. Gottesman will begin her new role effective July 1, 2018.
