Howard T. Herber Middle School announced its two students who are leading the way for its eighth grade class. The class may not formally meet for the usual pomp and circumstance this year, but its valedictorian Kazuri Harris and salutatorian Raya Harrison will still lead the class into its freshman year.

Kazuri’s strengths lie not only in her intelligence, but in her ability to connect with others. A member of the National Junior Honor Society, she will graduate from HTH with an overall average of 98.7505. Kazuri has found a love for performance and has been a soloist with the Select Choir, as well as earned a lead role in the musical production of “The Lion King.” She has been able to combine her ability for asking questions and her love of performance by participating in mock trial. A very creative and expressive individual, Kazuri also has a passion for writing.

Raya is an energetic and meticulous student. With an average of 98.2565, she has managed to perfectly balance academics with extracurricular activities. Raya is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, the Community Service Club and Athletes Assisting Athletes. She has amassed more than 73 hours of community service. When Raya isn’t focusing on her academics or service to others, she likes to be creative. She plays flute in the HTH band, is a member of the Jazz Band and Select Choir, and is an active member of the drama club, appearing in the musicals “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Lion King.” Outside of school, Raya attends dance classes and participates in martial arts.

The district congratulates both of these students on their successes.
