LVHS Senior Leo Capobianco recently performed with the University of Virginia Marching Band before an audience of 60,000 people.  Leo said it was an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity.

The performance took place during UVA Band Day, an event that allows chosen high school students to join the Cavalier Marching Band for the day. However, most of the high school participants are from Virginia area high schools and perform in their high school marching bands on a regular basis.  Leo reached out to the Assistant Band Director during a college visit this past summer. He plans to apply to UVA, among other colleges and universities.

LVHS music teacher Vincent Guerra said that Leo is a hardworking and dedicated musician. “He has attended every performance since sixth grade and volunteers his tuba playing for community and middle school concerts,” Mr. Guerra said. He added that the opportunity to play with the UVA Marching Band was a great experience for Leo. “He got to meet young musicians like himself from around the US.”

Leo had one week to learn five new pieces, which he taught himself at home in preparation for the performance. Leo’s entire music education has been through his classes in the LVCSD. He has played the tuba since the fifth grade. “At Locust Valley we have a great music staff.  They enjoy what they do and they really pass on their passion for music to the students," Leo said.
