Congratulations to the Pride of Malverne Marching Band which has, once again, placed first in their division at the New York State Championships. The band placed first in the elite Small School I Division at the New York State Field Band Competition held at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY this past weekend.Led by Drum Majors Alex Mendez and Subhadra Debnath, the band left the competition with the highest score of any Long Island band (91.65) and the sixth highest score out of the 53 bands across the entire state. This is the first time in NYSFBC history that a Long Island band has won the Small School I Division.

The band is directed by Glen Johnson and assistant director Alyssa Rizzuto, under the direction of Music and Fine Arts Chairperson Michael Messina. This year’s show was called “The Uninvited,” which wove a story about a family who doesn’t know their new house is haunted. The Pride of Malverne had also been crowned New York State Champions in their division in 2006, 2010 and 2011.
