Malverne High School is one of only eight schools in New York State, and the only one on Long Island, being featured for its exemplary records of success in a University at Albany NYKids study of odds-beating high schools. The study is a qualitative report that focuses on the methods the district utilizes to achieve success for all students.

“We strive for an atmosphere of excellence and equity,” said Principal Dr. Vincent Romano. “Everyone here embraces that – the teachers, students, support staff, counselors, librarians you name it – and that’s what makes the difference for us. Everyone plays a role and everyone gives 110 percent.”

The mission of NYKids is to inform educators about school performance in comparison to other schools in the state, to inspire educators through case studies and reports of promising practices in odds-beating schools, and to improve schools through professional development.

“Everyone here in Malverne has really embraced the culture of success,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Hunderfund. “The fact that we are a smaller district only enables us to devote more personal attention to making sure that every student has the resources they need to achieve their maximum level of success.”

A comprehensive report on the eight model schools will be featured on the University at Albany NYKids website, https://www.albany.edu/nykids, in the coming weeks.
