STEMming Through Summer

Rising eighth-graders at HTH participated in a STEM Camp with science teacher Shannon Kelly. Students delved into the intricacies of the scientific method by learning how to develop hypotheses, differentiate between independent and dependent variables, and analyze data in order to support or refute hypotheses. Throughout the week, students experimented on Gummy Bears (What happens when Gummy Bears are placed in water?), Oreo cookies (Do DoubleStuf cookies actually have double the "stuff"?) and paper airplanes (Which airplane design is best for maximum flight distance?). On the last day of camp, students developed and conducted an experiment to determine the efficacy of different sunblocks.
