Eighth-graders in the science research class at Howard T. Herber Middle School are participating in the Long Island Science & Engineering Fair, Inc.’s Middle School Fair, as well as the more local Nassau County Science Fair. Open to students in grades 6-8, LISEF promotes excellence in science inquiry and discovery in Long Island schools. Under the guidance of teacher Shannon Kelly, this is the second year that students will be competing in the competition.

Students recently held a practice session, where they explained their projects to various visitors including teachers, administrators and peers. Project topics included: which wax melts fastest; generating electricity through electromagnetism; efficacy of green cleaning products; and the absorption of sponges.
