Three ninth-grade students at Malverne High School were recognized with honorable mentions in the 2015 Essay Contest for Secondary Students sponsored by the Center for Italian Studies at Stony Brook University. The contest asks students to explore the culture of Italian Americana through the works of Italian-American writers. Ninth-graders in Gina Cappellino’s Italian class were offered the opportunity to participate in the contest, and three students were chosen to receive honorable mentions for their submissions. Congratulations to Tiffany Hernandez, Angie Luna-Menjivar and Olivia St. John on their notable essays.
