This past week, Mrs. Marguerite Izzo, Teacher Hall of Fame Inductee and Assistant Superintendent Rose Linda Ricca were invited to Washington DC to meet with NEA officials and the United States Department of Education. "Although the trip was to endorse the National Teacher Hall of Fame, officials and policy makers sat down at the table to listen to us as we discussed the pros and cons of Common Core, Teacher evaluations, and State Testing", said Mrs. Ricca. It was agreed that the Common Core Standards are very good and they could provide a better path forward for each and every student. However the implementation in most states was done very poorly and the assessments are not being created nor used properly. As stated by the NEA President, Dennis Van Roekel, "If better teaching and learning is our goal, then policymakers need to implement educators' recommendations to get implementation on track." Talking with teachers and administrators is their first step in correcting the implementation of the CCLS.
