The 4th Annual Relay for Life of Malverne will be May 2, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM on the MHS track.  The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is a unique celebration of life in honor and in memory of those lives who have been touched by cancer.  Relay for Life involves teams of people who take turns walking or running around a track.  A festive atmosphere prevails as team members camp out on the surrounding grounds for the duration of the event to enjoy music, food, fun, entertainment, and activities while building camaraderie with fellow teammates and participants.  Money raised through team commitment fees and fundraising endeavors, help support American Cancer Society programs in research, education, advocacy and service - locally, statewide, and nationally.

Our district goal is to raise more than $30,000.

We are looking for several volunteers to be part of this magical event and to help make a difference in our community.

Also, we are looking to form Relay for Life teams.  A team could be any group of three or more. Some examples of teams could be: various sports teams, club members, Board of Education Members, The MTA Executive Board, peer mentors, departments, various staff member groups, teacher and class goups, PTA, other committee members, alumni, student or adult groups of friends/colleagues, families, church/temple groups, dance classes, etc.

Participants can register online at www.relayfolife.org/malverneny.  Cancer survivors who want to participate do not pay a registration fee and should call Sarah Sobel, Relay for Life Specialist at 631-300-3154 to register.

We are looking to form a Team Development Committee and Team sub-committees.

Some of the buildings already have sub-committees, appointed leaders and very committed individuals who have already started the magic.  If you are interested in being part of one of these committees or have already established a committee, please inform me and please keep me abreast of what you are planning.  This way, I will have a point person(s) to communicate important information and to provide you with the many important documents and flyers.  Plus, I will be well-informed when I need to provide feedback to Spiro Colitis.

Committee Meetings will take place at 3:30 PM in the HS library on the following dates:  February 27, March 13, April 3. April 24.
