Mules Pull off a 20-13 Win Against Valley Stream North

“Olympic Dreams” was the theme of Malverne High School’s 2013 Homecoming on October 19—a theme that perfectly reflected the winning spirit of the day. A parade down Ocean Avenue, led by members of the Board of Education and district administration, marked the opening of the festivities. Floats representing all of the schools in the district depicted students’ Olympic hopes and dreams for the future. Homecoming King Jon Caban and Queen Erin Foley and their homecoming court waved to the fans lining the street. The high school and middle school marching bands, joined by the cheerleading squads from each school had everyone marching to the Malverne beat. Also joining the parade were the Malverne Girl Scout Troops 2561 and 2567, as well as members of the Malverne Wildcats youth football program.

At the stadium, the Mules faced off against the Valley Stream North Spartans. The Select Choir, led by student conductor Chris Meacham sang a heartfelt rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” before the start of the game. Spirits were high as the loyal Malverne fans filled the stands to cheer their team on. It was an action packed game, with the Mules leading by 13-7 at the half. The second half got off to a dramatic start with Mules quarterback Aaron Hill running for a 60-yard touchdown just minutes into the quarter. Valley Stream scored their second touchdown late in the third quarter, but it was not enough to stave off the Mules, who defeated the Spartans with a final score at 20-13.

The halftime festivities began with a ceremony honoring this year’s inductees to the Malverne High School Hall of Fame. The highlight of the halftime show was a precision performance by the Pride of Malverne Marching Band, who will be competing this year for their 11th state championship title. The varsity cheerleading team also put on a high-flying acrobatic act.
